The German WWII gas warning flag (Gasspürfähnchen) was a small, triangular yellow pennant featuring a black skull and crossbones. These flags were part of a set issued to Wehrmacht troops, particularly Pioneer (engineer) units, to mark hazardous areas. The flags were typically made of yellow cotton or linen and had a printed black skull and crossbones emblem. They were usually small, around 12.5 cm by 9 cm, or sometimes a slightly larger size. Their primary purpose was to warn personnel of gas-contaminated areas. They were also utilized to mark minefields, indicating danger from either chemical agents or explosives.

This is the first time I came across a large specimen as this one (35 x 24 CM). I do known the square model, but never seen a pennant shaped one. Looking at the fabric and the scull this is without a question an original piece. The pennant is very unusual, most probably used to mark an entire contaminated area, vehicle or minefield. (I added a wound badge for size reference).
