*During World War II, harmonicas were a common and popular item among German soldiers, officially encouraged by the Wehrmacht as a portable morale booster. They were a primary source of personal entertainment due to their small size and mobility. Harmonicas were one of the few musical instruments a soldier could easily carry in his pocket, providing a way to pass the time during lulls in fighting and combat loneliness. German companies, primarily M. Hohner and others like C. A. Seydel Söhne, were major suppliers. *
