The Mother's Cross in Silver (officially, the Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter Zweite Stufe or Honor Cross of the German Mother, Second Class) was a state decoration in Nazi Germany awarded to mothers for bearing and raising a large number of "racially pure" children. The Mother's Cross was instituted in three classes by Adolf Hitler on December 16, 1938, as part of a campaign to increase the German birth rate. The silver class was specifically awarded to mothers who had given birth to six or seven children.
