Infanteriesturmabzeichen in Bronze

The Infanteriesturmabzeichen (Infantry Assault Badge) was a German military award during World War II. It was instituted on December 20, 1939, by Generaloberst Walther von Brauchitsch, Commander-in-Chief of the German Army. The badge was intended as a "visible sign of recognition for assault-hardened infantry and, at the same time, as an incentive to fulfill the highest duty." The award was presented to enlisted men and officers of non-motorized infantry and mountain troops (Gebirgsjäger) who had participated in ground combat. Criteria: Participation in at least three infantry attacks (including counterattacks) on three separate days of front-line fighting. Engagement in combat reconnaissance or close-quarters combat in an assault position. Participation in three separate days restoring fighting positions. Successful reconnaissance and the destruction of tanks by individual soldiers could also count towards the award.
