The Erdkampfabzeichen (German: Ground Attack Badge of the Luftwaffe) was a German military decoration of World War II. It was established on March 31, 1942, by Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring to honor Luftwaffe personnel who had distinguished themselves in ground combat. The award was intended for Luftwaffe soldiers who had to fight in ground combat, as the war progressed and infantry became increasingly needed. The badge was typically awarded to personnel who had participated in at least three separate ground combat actions on different days. Alternative criteria included being wounded in a ground combat action or receiving another award for such an action. The badge, designed by Professor Sigmund von Weech of Berlin, features an oval oak leaf wreath. At its center is a Luftwaffe eagle above a storm cloud, from which a lightning bolt strikes the rough ground.
