A Waffen-SS belt buckle was a standard-issue piece of military equipment worn by members of the Waffen-SS, featuring the organization's motto and a specific eagle-and-swastika emblem. The buckle for enlisted men and non-commissioned officers (EM/NCO) was a rectangular "box" style with a high-relief, embossed central motif. This motif consisted of an SS-style national eagle with outstretched wings, clutching a wreath that encircled a static swastika. Encircling the central emblem was the Gothic script motto "Meine Ehre heißt Treue!" (My Honour is Loyalty!). The materials used changed over time due to wartime demands. Early buckles (c. 1931-1936) were made from nickel silver (Alpaka or Neusilber). Later versions were made from aluminum (1936-1940), and late-war buckles were typically stamped steel, often with a dull silver or gray painted finish.
This item:
A typical late war SS belt buckle executed in steel. This model is unmarked but has the typical characteristics from the company Overhoff & Cie. This belt buckle was used in combat, but all its beautiful details have been preserved. At least 80 percent of the thin layer of originally applied silver wash remains. A very beautiful and original piece.
