Category:
The "Wehrmacht Long Service Medal 12 Years" was the Wehrmacht's 3rd Class Long Service Award, bestowed upon military personnel for twelve years of loyal and exemplary service. The award was instituted by Adolf Hitler on March 16, 1936, to honor military personnel for long service in the newly formed Wehrmacht (Army, Navy, and Air Force). The 12-Year Service Medal was the third of four main classes (4 years, 12 years, 18 years, and 25 years). It was a round, gilded medal, often made of gilded steel or bronze. The obverse depicted the German Imperial Eagle clutching a movable swastika in its talons, surrounded by the inscription in Gothic script: "Loyal Service in the Wehrmacht."
