Category:
The 2nd Class Long Service Award for 18 Years in the Air Force was a military decoration in Nazi Germany, established on March 16, 1936, by Adolf Hitler to recognize long years of service in the Wehrmacht (Army, Navy, and Air Force. Here are the key details about this awardPurpose and eligibility criteria: The award was presented to officers, non-commissioned officers, and enlisted personnel of the Air Force who had completed a total of 18 years of service. Previous service in the Reichswehr, during the First World War, and partly in civilian life (e.g., in the police) was also counted towards the total service time. The award is a silver-colored (silver-plated) Maltese cross. Early examples were made of brass/tombak, while later ones were made of zinc. On the obverse, the central medallion shows the Luftwaffe sovereign eagle (with a swastika in its claws). On the reverse, the number "18" is embossed in the centre within a raised border. The medal was worn on a cornflower blue ribbon. A small, superimposed silver-coloured Luftwaffe eagle was attached to the ribbon, which marked the specific affiliation to the Luftwaffe, as the basic medal (the cross) was the same for all Wehrmacht units, but differed in the ribbon and the ribbon eagle. The service award for 18 years was the 2nd class of this award series. There were a total of four classes (4, 12, 18 and 25 years) and later a special level for 40 years
