The Deutscher Luftsportverband (DLV) was an umbrella organization in Nazi Germany founded in March 1933. Although officially a civil aviation association, it actually served as a secret front for the buildup of the German Air Force (Luftwaffe), which was prohibited under the Treaty of Versailles. The main characteristics of the DLV were under the guise of recreational flying and gliding, the DLV trained future military pilots and personnel. The organization was formed through the forced merger of all existing German flying clubs and air sports associations to gain complete control over the aviation sector. Hermann Göring, then Reich Minister of Aviation, oversaw the DLV. Bruno Loerzer, a World War I fighter pilot, was its chairman. Disbandment: After the Luftwaffe was officially and publicly established in 1935, the DLV lost its primary function. The organization was disbanded in 1937 and replaced by the National Socialist Flying Corps (NSFK), which focused on the ideological and technical education of young people. The DLV laid the foundation for the rapid expansion of the German air force in the lead-up to World War II by providing trained personnel and infrastructure on a large scale.
This item:
A nice and complete documented logbook from a D.L.V "pilot", starting June 1937 and ended December 1939. A "glider pilot's logbook" is a historical document formerly issued by gliding clubs (such as the German Air Sports Association) that served as a kind of logbook and training record to document flight data, takeoffs, landings and training progress, comparable to a modern flight logbook, but often with more focus on training and membership in the 1930s. This lot also includes a pocket booklet published in 1941, which described in detail all then-known enemy aircraft and explained how to identify them.
