German WW2 M44 trousers were late-war, simplified field trousers for the Wehrmacht and SS, characterized by a straight leg, minimal features (like no waist tabs), dark wool or HBT fabric (often brownish-grey/field-grey), and essential pockets (side, watch, sometimes rear) to speed production and cut costs, worn with the matching M44 tunic. Material: Usually rougher, darker wool or Herringbone Twill (HBT) cotton, often in field-grey or brownish-grey. Simplified, straight-leg cut, lacking the elaborate features of earlier trousers. Typically two angled side pockets, a small watch pocket, and sometimes two rear pockets. Featured belt loops and sometimes side adjustment tabs or internal suspender buttons. Tapered with twill tape ties or stirrups to fit into boots. Designed for efficiency in late-war production, intended to be worn with the matching M44 tunic. Heer (Army): Often standard wool in field-grey.
Waffen-SS: Worn in various materials, including wool and distinctive "Dot" camouflage patterns. The M44 pattern represented Germany's effort to conserve resources and streamline uniform production as the war progressed, making them a distinct late-war item, especially popular with new recruits and SS units.
