Signal was an illustrated photo journal and the primary international propaganda magazine of Nazi Germany during World War II. Published by the Wehrmacht (German military) from 1940 to 1945, it was specifically designed for audiences in neutral, allied, and occupied countries rather than for the German domestic public. It was known for its high-quality production, featuring large-format photographs and extensive use of color photography (via Agfacolor), which was rare and technologically advanced for the time. At its peak in 1943, it had a circulation of approximately 2.5 million copies per issue. It was published fortnightly in as many as 30 languages, including English, French, Dutch, and Russian. While primarily distributed in occupied Europe and Axis-aligned nations, an English version was available in the United States until December 1941. The magazine focused on portraying a "New Order" for a unified Europe under German leadership. Beyond military reports, it included lifestyle articles on science, arts, women's fashion, and advertisements for German companies like BMW and Agfa. Promoted by the chief of the Wehrmacht Propaganda Troops, Colonel Hasso von Wedel, the magazine aimed to present a sanitized, heroic image of the German military. It often highlighted the supposed modernity and success of German forces while downplaying the tragedies of war. As the war turned against Germany after 1943, its tone shifted from "brash optimism" to stories of "sensationalist heroism" to mask the Reich's decline.

This item:
The "Signal" magazine from the Second World War is a beautifully illustrated work with many photos (often in color) and usually features a poster in the center. I have several hundred of them. The price varies per copy, depending on the quality (condition) and the rarity of the copy. A Signal magazine generally always has a poster in the center; these have often been removed. All copies I offer have a poster; if not, I will mention this in the ad! I do not offer copies that have been completely read or digested. I will regularly offer some Signal magazines. Please note: these do not fit through the letterbox and can only be shipped as a parcel. It might be a good idea to combine this with other items (which can be sent along for the same price). If you are looking for a specific issue from a particular year, please let me know, and I can check if I have it in my collection. The Signaal magazine is a large format magazine that lends itself beautifully to framing (both the front and the inside poster), or for example to supplement your collection.
