The award was given in three levels: bronze, silver, and gold, with gold being the highest level. The award was conferred from 1939 to 1945 to promote the birth rate and to recognize merit for the German nation. The award was intended to support the Nazi regime's demographic growth strategy by honoring mothers for giving birth to and raising many children.
Awarding: It was given to German citizens and later also to ethnically German mothers who were considered exemplary and had at least four children.
Levels: The award existed in three classes: Bronze for four to five children, Silver for six to seven children, Gold for eight or more children
