Iron Cross 1939 1st Class "20"

The Iron Cross 1st Class (Eisernes Kreuz 1. Klasse) was a prestigious German military decoration awarded for exceptional bravery or significant military achievement. Unlike the 2nd Class, it was a pin-backed medal worn directly on the left breast of the uniform. A recipient typically had to have already earned the Iron Cross 2nd Class before being considered for the 1st Class. The 1st Class required multiple acts of courage (often three to five in WWII German forces) or a single act of great importance. The cross features a three-piece construction with an iron core and a silver frame. Original cores are magnetic. The medal was pinned to the uniform, without a ribbon, distinguishing it from the 2nd Class

This is a beautiful, original Iron Cross, First Class. However, in my opinion, the maker's mark "20" was not applied by the manufacturer. Otherwise, it's a beautiful, original cross in excellent condition!
