The Destroyer War Badge (Zerstörerkriegsabzeichen) was a German military award of the Kriegsmarine during World War II. Instituted on June 4, 1940, by Grand Admiral Erich Raeder.
Purpose: Originally intended for the crews of destroyers that participated in the Battle of Narvik. Later, it was awarded more broadly to personnel on destroyers, torpedo boats, and fast attack boats (S-boats) until the introduction of the specific S-Boat War Badge. Award was based on participation in three different combat actions, an outstanding performance in a single engagement, or for personnel wounded in action. Design: An oval badge of tombak or zinc, depicting a destroyer cutting through a wave, surrounded by a wreath of oak leaves, surmounted by an eagle holding a swastika.
