The Deutsches Turn- und Sportabzeichen (DRA) in gold was a prestigious award for physical fitness in Germany between 1919 and 1934. It was issued by the Deutscher Reichsausschuss für Leibesübungen (DRA). An oval bronze, silver, or gold wreath of oak leaves with the stylized letters "DRA" in the center. To achieve the gold grade, an athlete had to meet strict requirements in five categories—swimming, jumping, sprinting, throwing, and endurance—over a series of years (usually 7 years after earning silver, or at age over 40) Historical Context: In 1933, the DRA was replaced by the DRL (Deutscher Reichsbund für Leibesübungen), with the design being modified in 1937 by the addition of a swastika
