The 21st Panzer Regiment was a crucial component of the German 21st Panzer Division during World War II. The regiment experienced two distinct phases: its famous deployment in North Africa and its re-establishment in France with captured equipment. 1. North Africa (The Afrika Korps) The regiment was originally formed as Panzer-Regiment 5 (part of the 5th Leichte Division) and renamed Panzer-Regiment 21 in 1941 when the division was reformed into the 21st Panzer Division. It was one of two armored regiments of the Deutsches Afrika Korps (DAK) under the command of Erwin Rommel. It took part in the Siege of Tobruk, the Battle of Gazala, and the Battle of El Alamein. In May 1943, the regiment surrendered to the Allies in Tunisia, after which the original unit ceased to exist. 2. Normandy and the West (Re-establishment) In June 1943, the 21st Panzer Division was re-established in France from the Schnelle Brigade West. During this phase, the armored force was often organized under Panzer-Regiment 100 (or later again 22). Due to shortages of German tanks, the regiment was largely equipped with converted French captured vehicles (such as the Hotchkiss and Somua), modified by engineer Alfred Becker. 2. D-Day: On June 6, 1944, this was the only armored division able to launch a direct counterattack on the Allied landing beaches at Caen. Destruction: The regiment suffered heavy losses in the Falaise Pocket in August 1944. 3. The Final Phase (Eastern Front) At the end of the war (January 1945), the regiment was reorganized as a greatly reduced unit (based on the 22nd Panzer Regiment) and deployed to the Eastern Front to halt the Red Army's advance near cities like Cottbus. The remnants of the unit surrendered to the Soviets on April 29, 1945.

For anyone looking for a uniform that actually been there, look no further. This is a fantastic, heavily worn early ensemble of a officers panzer uniform and breeches from a very infamous tank unit. This set originally came directly from a German estate, and the pieces absolutely match. I also own the schirmmutze from the same person, which I will offer later. Normally, I keep these pieces together, but in this case, I'm offering them separately because not everyone is interested in complete uniforms, or perhaps already owns, for example, the jacket or schirmmutze. Well, for once, the jacket isn't in mint condition, nor is it one that's been completely eaten away by moths. But it's a particularly beautiful display item because it truly retains its charm and looks exactly as it would have been when it was in use. You rarely find them in this condition. It's been heavily used and has undergone quite a few repairs, all of which were carried out during use. In my opinion, we're talking about an early officer's field blouse that, at the very least, briefly served as a service tunic. The detailing on the bird is fantastic, seeing how they tried to keep it looking pristine. All the pieces—the bird, the collar tabs, the shoulder pieces, and the buttons—are absolutely part of this jacket and are originally attached. The aiguillette is in a slightly worn near mint condition. The jacket features six loops on the top left pocket for three decorations and one loop on the top right pocket, which makes it extra special. In one of the bags I found the pendant for the parade dagger. All in all, I personally think it's a beautiful jacket that really speaks volumes. The breeches that come with it were used by the same person and are stone gray. It comes with its original braces made by Hercules, which (yes, indeed) have also undergone a minor repair. It's clearly well-worn but completely moth-free, and there are, of course, signs of wear. All buttons and laces are still present. As I mentioned before, I also own the visor cap from the same person. It's one of the best I've ever seen and is in truly fantastic worn condition with all the woven insignia originally mounted, completely moth-free, and a has beautiful saddle shape. A beautiful ensemble and a true survivor!
