The Iron Cross 2nd Class (Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse) was a prestigious German military decoration re-instituted by Kaiser Wilhelm II on August 5, 1914, to recognize acts of bravery during World War I. It was a foundational award in the German military hierarchy, accessible to soldiers of all ranks, and recipients had to earn this class before being considered for a higher one (the Iron Cross 1st Class).

This cross is in mint condition; it has certainly never been worn. 3 Piece construction with a magnetic core. Marked on the ring with the letter "Z", which may indicate the firm H. Zehn or Zeich, both from Berlin. The ribbon is still at full length and I found it in the light blue envelope. A very beautiful set.
