The Kriegsverdienstkreuz (KVK), or War Merit Cross, was a German military decoration instituted by Adolf Hitler on October 18, 1939, shortly after the start of World War II. This award was intended to recognize merits that did not qualify for the more prestigious Iron Cross, such as brave acts not performed under direct enemy fire, or merits of military leadership outside the immediate front line. With Swords (mit Schwertern): Awarded to service members for merit at the front or in combat-related roles.

A very beautiful Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1st Class in magnificent condition with a lovely patina. Neatly stamped "L/11" on the lance, which stands for the maker Wilhelm Deumer. It comes in its original box (this is the Deumer box it is truly meant to be in). The box is also in impeccable condition and closes perfectly. A lovely set.
