*The Cross of Honour for the World War (Ehrenkreuz des Weltkrieges 1914/1918), also known as the Hindenburg Cross, was the first official German commemorative medal for veterans and survivors of the First World War. It was July 13th, 1934 established by Reich President Paul von Hindenburg to honor the merits of the German people during the war.
There where three versions, the cross was issued in three different classes, depending on the nature of the service:
For frontline fighters: Bronze coloured with crossed swords and a laurel wreath.
For war participants: Bronze-coloured without swords, with an oak wreath (for non-combat functions).
For next of kin: A black iron cross without swords, awarded to widows and parents of fallen soldiers.
