After the First World War, many German veterans joined regional and regimental associations. Since the official state awards were limited, these associations commissioned high-quality "Regimental Memory Crosses." These badges were worn with great pride on veteran gala uniforms during parades and memorial services to honor the brotherhood and the specific history of their former frontline units.
This item:
A stunning and exceptionally well-preserved Regimental Commemorative Cross (Treu dem Regiment) from the post-WWI era (ca. 1920s). This cross was awarded to veterans as a symbol of lifelong loyalty to their regiment. The gilded cross features crossed swords and the motto "Allzeit Bereit" (Always Ready) on the front, with "Treu dem Regiment" (Loyal to the Regiment) on the reverse. Condition is excellent "worn" condition. Unusually, almost 100% of the original gold gilding is still present, giving the piece a brilliant luster.
Ribbon & Mount: The medal features a beautifully mounted black-and-white ribbon in a classic trapezoid shape (tapered towards the ring). The ribbon is professionally stretched over a brass mounting plate. The reverse of the ribbon mount features the original, sturdy attachment pin. Due to the combination of the bright gold and the sharp contrast of the Prussian-style black and white ribbon, this is a very displayable piece. A textbook example of German veteran tradition, sourced from an old US collection.
