WWII German 4-Piece Combination Field Utensil Set (Eagle Marked). A classic, highly sought-after original World War II German military 4-piece combination field cutlery set (Essbesteck), frequently nicknamed the "Klaue" (Claw) by collectors. This engineering marvel allowed frontline soldiers to carry a complete dining set compactly in their breadbag.
The set consists of a stainless steel (RVS) outer holder that functions as a can opener, a stainless steel combat knife, an aluminum fork, and an aluminum spoon. All four pieces slide together and click securely into the central housing unit. It features sharp military acceptance stamps and original period serial markings.
This Item
The outer holder and the knife are crafted from premium stainless steel, while the fork and spoon are made from lightweight early/mid-war aluminum. All components click into the holder firmly with a tight, solid fit. The stainless steel blade is in excellent condition, remaining remarkably sharp. Crucially, it features its original factory edge and has not been improperly re-sharpened or ground down by post-war owners. The face of the stainless steel holder is crisply stamped with the iconic German national eagle emblem (vogel).
Every component bears an original stamped issue/serial number. The holder is marked "500", the knife "501", the spoon "1089", and the fork "2089". This variation in numbers provides fantastic historical evidence of a true field-assembled set used actively during the war. Excellent, lightly used combat condition. The aluminum pieces show honest light pocket wear and minimal pitting, while the steel parts display a clean, uncleaned patina without severe corrosion.
