WWII German Wehrmacht Black Bakelite Marching Compass (fxn Marked). An exceptional, 100% original World War II German Army combat marching compass (Marschkompass). This is the highly desirable second issued pattern, masterfully constructed with a heavy, non-magnetic black bakelite housing unit.
The compass is fully operational and beautifully marked with the scarce manufacturer code "fxn", tracking its production directly to the wartime workshops of Wilhelm Wolkersdorf / Schieck-Instrumente. Crucially, this piece remains entirely complete with its factory-original, long textile carrying cord. Essential personal kit items in this complete state are prime additions for elite infantry gear displays.
This Item
The Bakelite Housing: The solid black bakelite frame is in magnificent condition. It is completely free of chips, fractures, deep scratches, or cracks, presenting a beautiful natural uncleaned sheen. Factory Markings: The compass features highly desirable dual markings: the code "fxn" is deeply and sharply factory-stamped into both the upper and lower surfaces of the hard bakelite body. Mechanics & Luminous Dial: The interior compass fluid/needle mechanism remains fully operational and functional. The glass face is clean and scratch-free. The rotating outer bezel turns smoothly, and the original radium/luminous directional markers (including the "O" for Ost/East) are still crisp and present. The Original Cord: The compass retains its rare, original long woven textile neck-cord (koord). The cord remains strong, unfrayed, and is securely attached to the brass mounting loop. Overall State: A choice, collector-grade field survivor. It displays an outstanding, untouched field patina, making it a textbook example of Wehrmacht tactical navigation equipment
