This is an excellent, fully functional pre-WWII Czechoslovakian military marching compass (Bézard-type), manufactured in the pivotal crisis year of 1938 by the renowned optical firm Srb & Štys in Prague. The reverse side features a textbook, beautifully preserved declination table ("DEKLINACE DNE 1/I. 1938") explicitly listing strategic Czechoslovakian locations including Cheb, Praha, Brno, Košice, Užhorod, and Jasina, highlighting the historical borders just prior to the Munich Agreement and the annexation of the Sudetenland. The top lid is deeply stamped with the correct military orientation marking "SMĚR" (Direction). The set is in exceptional, field-ready condition with a crisp and smooth push-button mechanism, a perfectly working needle, and the original olive-drab neck lanyard fully intact. Accompanying the compass is its original, heavy-duty brown leather carrying pouch, which features strong stitching and a fully functional closure stud. An honest, market-conforming time capsule that displays beautifully.
