WWII German Allgemeines Sturmabzeichen (General Assault Badge) - Zinc Issue with Combat Damage. An original World War II German General Assault Badge (Allgemeines Sturmabzeichen), instituted on June 1, 1940, to reward non-infantry combat support personnel who participated in three independent assaults on three different days. The oval badge features a die-struck Wehrmacht-style national eagle clutching a swastika, positioned above a crossed combat bayonet and M24 stick grenade, all enclosed within an authentic oak-leaf wreath. This mid-to-late war specimen is manufactured from solid zinc (Feinzink). The reverse shows its original integrated hinge setup, but the lower wire catch is broken off due to actual wartime front service, a common mechanical failure for zinc combat decorations. The surface remains completely untouched, displaying a textbook, uncleaned dark grey zinc patina with fine high-point definition remaining on the grenade handle and eagle's plumage.
