€ 24,00
A very fine, crisp commemorative shield-shaped lapel badge for the 1955 National Gathering of German POW Returnees (Heimkehrer-Deutschlandtreffen) held in Hannover. The obverse features an emotional relief design depicting a returning soldier reunited with his family, flanked by the Verband der Heimkehrer (VdH) organizational emblem. The perimeter reads: "Hannover - Landtreffen 1955 - Heimkehrer-Deutschland". The reverse is complete with its original, fully functional vertical pin assembly and displays a clear hallmark for the prestigious maker Hofstätter, Bonn. In excellent, untouched condition with a beautiful golden-bronze patina.
The Verband der Heimkehrer, Kriegsgefangenen und Vermisstenangehörigen Deutschlands (VdH) was established to support and reintegrate German prisoners of war returning from Soviet and Allied captivity long after WWII ended. The massive 1955 national meeting in Hannover marked a historic milestone, coinciding with the final repatriation of the last remaining German POWs from Soviet camps later that year.
