R.S. & S. WWII German Luftwaffe Gold Bomber Pilot Clasp - Tombak Issue with Hanger Slots & Period Box. An absolute museum-grade, an original WWII German Luftwaffe Bomber Pilot Front-Line Flight Clasp in GOLD (Frontflugspange für Kampfflieger in Gold). This elite decoration was officially instituted on January 30, 1941, to recognize bomber crews who completed a minimum of 110 confirmed operational combat missions under intense enemy fire. This rare early-to-mid war piece is masterfully struck from high-grade heavy Tombak/Buntmetall, retaining a spectacular amount of its original, bright factory-applied fiery gold plating to the reverse chassis. The central wreath securely features the chemically blackened, textbook downward-pointing stylized bomber bomb with small stabilization wings. Crucially, the left wing section features the factory-correct dual internal vertical rectangular slots/cutouts (mit Aussparung), specifically engineered to accommodate the attachment of a subsequent gold mission-counter hanger (Anhänger) for extended combat actions. The reverse is crisply and clearly struck with the correct wartime manufacturer mark "R.S. & S." for the prestigious firm Richard Sieper & Söhne (Lüdenscheid). Reflecting genuine front-line combat use, the small C-catch on the left tip has historically broken off during the period, while the original heavy needle-pin and robust integrated barrel-hinge setup remain fully functional and intact. The clasp comes housed in a highly desirable, authentic WWII-period luxury burgundy-red presentation box lined with velvet and satin. An incredibly advanced, historically documented Luftwaffe rarity.
