Rare 1860 / 1870 High pickelhaube / helmet case

Rare 1870 Pattern High-Profile Imperial German Cavalry Helmet Case – Garde du Corps / Kürassier / M1860 Pickelhaube – 38cm Height. An exceptionally rare, early-pattern Imperial German protective leather and fiber transport case (Helmschachtel). Due to its massive proportions, measuring 38 cm in height and 32 cm in width, this case was specifically manufactured to house the extremely tall, early-pattern M1860/M1867 infantry Pickelhauben or the heavy metal helmets worn by Kürassier and Garde du Corps officers. These early helmets featured immense spikes on cross-bases or large parade eagles that required a significantly higher case than the standard WWI-issue types. An incredibly scarce accessory, perfect for completing a museum-grade 19th-century heavy cavalry or early Prussian display. Dimensions: Height: 38 cm | Width: 32 cm. Crafted from heavy black-lacquered pressed fiber. Crucially, all original leather strapping remains present. The main closure strap with its steel buckle is completely intact and remains very supple. The bottom leather carrying harness is present but has separated on one side (a clean, untouched break that could be restored or left as-is). The lid seals perfectly tight. The light-colored cloth interior lining (fully lining both the body and the base) shows some typical period staining and dust but remains entirely undamaged with no tears. Most importantly, both original internal leather retention straps are fully intact and present at the base. These inner straps were used to buckle the helmet securely to the bottom of the case to prevent the heavy metal headgear from shifting during transit. An untouched, highly advanced piece of early Imperial German field gear that is almost impossible to find with all its original interior and exterior leather work surviving.
