WWII German Named & Unit-Stamped Prescription Sunglasses - Infanterie-Regiment 42
A highly interesting and historically significant personalized German WWII military prescription sunglasses set (Sonnenbrille Heer). While standard medical spectacles with clear lenses are relatively common, officially issued tinted prescription sunglasses are far scarcer. These were custom-prepared by military optometrists for personnel with vision impairments deployed to sun-intense combat theaters. The set includes the original oval wire-rimmed glasses fitted with prescription-ground olive-green anti-glare tinted lenses. The flexible cable temples remain functional and intact. The glasses are housed inside their original field-gray painted steel storage tin, which retains the crisp gothic-style "Dienst-Brille" stenciled lettering on the lid alongside minor age patina.
Crucially, the original paper prescription slip remains completely intact inside the lid. It is explicitly typed out as a "SONNENBRILLE HEER" and personalized to "Feldwebel Heller". The document features an exceptionally sharp blue ink Wehrmacht military unit stamp (Dienststempel) belonging to Infanterie-Regiment 42. This highly regarded regiment (part of the 46th Infantry Division) saw heavy active combat during the 1941 Balkan Campaign in Yugoslavia, followed by intense operations in the sun-drenched and arid climates of the Crimea and the Caucasus. A premium, named field-gear accessory with outstanding provenance and display value.
