Wartime German 4-Place Ribbon Bar (Feldspange) - Unique Field-Tailor Repair
This is a highly characterful, authentic World War II German four-place ribbon bar (Feldspange), showcasing a classic frontline combination of military decorations. From left to right, the ribbons represent the 1939 Iron Cross 2nd Class, the March 13, 1938 (Austrian Anschluss) Commemorative Medal, the Eastern Front Medal (Winterschlacht im Osten 1941/42), and the October 1, 1938 (Sudetenland) Annexation Medal. Together, this rack perfectly reflects the combat history of a Wehrmacht veteran who participated in both early pre-war territorial expansion campaigns and the brutal winter fighting on the Russian Front.
What makes this particular ribbon bar exceptionally desirable for advanced equipment and uniform collectors is its fascinating reverse side. Mounted on a classic orange-brown wool felt backing matrix, the bar features an ingenious authentic period field-tailor modification. Following the contemporary loss or breakage of the original horizontal mounting pin, a resourceful tailor or soldier field-repaired the piece by neatly sewing a steel uniform tunic collar-closure hook (Kragenhaken) onto the reverse using heavy black thread. This modification allowed the veteran to securely catch the bar directly into the thread loops of his Feldbluse combat tunic. Exhibiting honest storage age, wonderful coloration, and a captivating piece of frontline ingenuity, this is a stellar display piece filled with historical character.
