Estate of Generalfeldmarschall H.R.H. Prince Albrecht von Preußen

This museum-grade combat ensemble represents an untouchable historical grouping of the absolute highest caliber, contextually linked to the direct personal lineage of the House of Hohenzollern. The offering comprises three interrelated artifacts from the personal estate of Prince Albrecht of Prussia: a spectacular General’s pattern M1895 spiked leather helmet fitted with a unique, non-standard Garde eagle plate and the silver star of the Order of the Black Eagle, the original custom transport case bearing the Prince's official royal presentation seal on the underside, and a well-matched pair of tunic-removed shoulder boards highlighting his supreme rank as Generalfeldmarschall. While individual General pieces or isolated marshal boards occasionally surface, the presentation of a complete, untouched three-piece grouping contextually bound to a single Royal Prince is an event of bizarre rarity on the global market. Ensembles of this airtight caliber do not appear under normal market circumstances.

The cornerstone of this royal grouping is an exceptional Imperial Prussian General's spiked leather helmet (Pickelhaube) executed to the highest tier of private military luxury. The body is formed from premium, deep-black vulcanized leather, retaining its original high-gloss lacquer finish with micro-fine, age-appropriate surface crazing that underscores its completely untouched state. Affixed to the front is a non-standard, custom-stamped fire-gilded brass Garde-pattern heraldic eagle, reflecting the Prince’s prestigious military command over elite Garde cavalry formations. Mounted as a separate multi-piece layer over the eagle’s breast is the heavy frosted and polished silver star of the Order of the Black Eagle (Schwarzer Adlerorden), complete with an immaculate, chip-free enamel core reading "Suum Cuique". The fire-gilded brass fittings feature a tall polished spike resting upon a fluted, cruciform general-grade base (Kreuzbeschlag) secured to the shell by four independent, eight-pointed star screws. The heavy brass interlocking chin scales rest tightly across the front visor trim, anchored at the sides by correct frosted-silver officer-pattern Prussian and Reich national cockades. The interior remains entirely unaltered, showing the correct green and red-tinted visor undersides alongside a pristine scalloped leather sweatband and cream silk lining.

Accompanying the helmet is the original, custom-fabricated protective transport and storage case configured to house the high-ranking headgear. Constructed from a robust wooden oval frame wrapped in a dark, textured protective leatherette paper coating, the case exhibits minor edge scuffing and shelf wear consistent with long-term archival preservation. The critical verification feature of this object is located on the underside of the base, which retains the complete, original circular paper presentation label bearing the clear printed text "Prinz Albrecht von Preussen" wrapped around the central royal heraldic coat of arms. The interior features a soft lining tailored to support the helmet shell, while the original leather retaining strap and steel buckle remain fully functional.

Completing the structural ensemble is a magnificent, flawless pair of uniform-removed shoulder pieces for the rank of Generalfeldmarschall. The insignia is intricately constructed utilizing heavy, multi-row interwoven bright gold bullion wire cords braided alongside dual rows of silver-aluminum threads carrying the distinctive black Prussian chevron pattern flights. Securely affixed to the center of the braided cords are the heavy, highly detailed crossed field marshal batons (Marschallstäbe) stamped in genuine silver, exhibiting a deep, uncleaned age-patina. The reverse faces are finished with a thick, vibrant ponceau-red wool cloth backing (Effenbeche) specific to general officers, complete with the original uniform attachment sliders and showing clear signs of period thread removal from a parade tunic.

The historical significance of this grouping centers entirely on Friedrich Wilhelm Nikolaus Albrecht, Prince of Prussia (1837–1906). A direct scion of the House of Hohenzollern, his lineage heavily anchors this ensemble within both German imperial and Dutch royal history. He was the son of Prince Albrecht of Prussia and Princess Marianne of the Netherlands. Consequently, Prince Albrecht was a direct grandson of King Willem I of the Netherlands, whom he called grandfather, and a nephew to the legendary Prince of Orange (later King Willem II), who famously fought and defeated Napoleon's forces at Waterloo. As a prince of the blood, he pursued a brilliant combat career, serving with distinction as a cavalry officer in the First Schleswig War (1848) and participating in the fierce battles of Skalitz, Schweinschädel, and Königgrätz during the Austro-Prussian War (1866). During the Franco-Prussian War (1870–1871), Prince Albrecht commanded the elite 2nd Guard Cavalry Brigade with immense strategic success, leading charges at the critical battles of Gravelotte and Sedan, and later operating under Edwin von Manteuffel in the hard-fought campaigns around Bapaume and St. Quentin. Following the unification of the Empire, he served as commander of the X Army Corps in Hannover, and in 1885, he was appointed Regent of the Duchy of Brunswick (Braunschweig), ruling with immense political acclaim until his death in 1906. Because he passed away years prior to the outbreak of the First World War, his legacy remained untarnished by the collapse of the Empire, and his personal artifacts were preserved as revered family heirlooms. This unparalleled royal profile is mirrored by an extraordinary list of personal military decorations, including the Order of the Black Eagle (with Collar), the House Order of Hohenzollern, the Iron Cross (1st and 2nd Class), the Pour le Mérite with Oak Leaves, and the Knight Grand Officer of the Military William Order of the Netherlands (Militaire Willems-Orde).
