WWII Dutch Postcards – V1 & V2 Exhibition Antwerp 1945
A matching pair of original Dutch post-war photographic postcards capturing captured German V1 and V2 retaliation weapons. Published by Joh. M. Allis in Amsterdam with photography by Foto Stevens from Haarlem, these cards depict the SHAEF "Since 1939" victory exhibition held at the Groenplaats in Antwerp, Belgium, in June/July 1945. The first card shows military personnel inspecting a complete V1 flying bomb resting on a wooden cradle, while the second card shows civilians and servicemen examining the tail section of a V2 rocket. Both cards are postally used to Utrecht, bearing 1½ cent Dutch postage stamps. One card features a fascinating handwritten contemporary slogan reading "Europa" Vormt! ("Europe Forms!"), documenting the immediate post-war spirit of reconstruction. A sharp and historically interesting pair of V-weapon exhibition photos.
