WWI German Humorous Postcards – "In Ruhe" Series (Set of 3)
A matching set of three original German World War I artistic postcards from the satirical series titled In Ruhe (At Rest). Published by the Verlag des Deutschen Vereins für Sanitäts-Hunde (German Association for Medical/Sanitary Dogs) in Oldenburg, these cards were originally sold to raise funds for wartime casualty-retrieval dogs. The set includes three distinct comedic scenes depicting soldiers and sailors relaxing behind the front lines, titled Eine feine Unterkunft... (A fine accommodation), Der "Ruhe"Staat (The state of rest), and the notably risqué Torpediert (Torpedoed). The latter features a double-entendre U-boat metaphor, showing a German sailor completely blindsided and smitten by a passing woman. All three cards are in clean, unissued, and unposted condition with sharp details and intact backprints. A scarce and highly characterful trio of genuine Great War propaganda and troop humor.
