*A Nahkampfmesser (German for "close combat knife") was the standard issue German combat or trench knife used during the First World War and in modified forms throughout the Second World War. It was designed primarily as a weapon of last resort for hand-to-hand combat, particularly in the confined spaces of trench warfare, but also served as a general-purpose utility knife for daily chores. It was carried by various units, including stormtroopers, assault units, machine gun crews, and officers. In WWII, many WWI-era knives remained in service alongside newer designs, such as the Luftwaffe-specific versions. *

A textbook example from the company Ern in Wald. The original wooden grip is in a very good condition, the blade on full length and not shortened, tip is as sharp as a needle , the scabbard still retains 85% of it's original black paint. The supple leather loop comes with it's original working press button. Very well maker marked.
