€ 239,00
An exceptionally rare, 100% authentic WWII German large-format gas and minefield warning pennant (Gasspürfahne / Minenwarnfahne). While the small rectangular 12x9 cm flags on metal rods are regularly encountered, this massive, triangular pennant-shaped specimen measuring an impressive 35 cm x 24 cm is virtually unfindable on the open market.
These large-format pennants featuring the iconic black printed Totenkopf (skull and crossbones) on a heavy yellow cotton base were utilized by Wehrmacht Pioneer (Engineer) units to demarcate highly hazardous, large-scale chemical contamination zones, or mounted directly onto military vehicles operating in danger areas.
"These larger 35x24 cm pennants are officially documented in the Beladepläne (vehicle loading lists) for specialized Pioneer and Gas-Reconnaissance vehicles (such as the Kfz. 4). Furthermore, tactical convoy marking is laid down in regulations like H.Dv. 299/1a (Ausbildungsvorschrift für die Pioniere), which dictates that larger warning indicators must be used so trailing motorized columns can immediately recognize contaminated boundaries directly from their vehicle cabins or roadsides."
These large-format pennants featuring the iconic black printed Totenkopf (skull and crossbones) on a heavy yellow cotton base were utilized by specialized Wehrmacht Pioneer (Engineer) and chemical reconnaissance units (Gasspürtrupps). Unlike ground flags, this specific triangular pennant with an integrated tunnel loop was designed to be mounted directly onto military vehicles. It was typically attached to the fender indicator rods or antennas of lead reconnaissance vehicles, armored cars, or trucks operating in contaminated zones. This served as a critical visual warning for trailing convoy vehicles to strictly follow the leader's tracks through hazardous gas or minefields. The aerodynamic pennant shape allowed it to withstand the wind resistance of a moving vehicle without tearing.
Made of heavy-gauge, coarse yellow-orange cotton/linen cloth with a textbook period-correct screen-printed skull motif. Mounting Setup: The wide side features the original integrated tunnel loop intended for inserting a wooden pole, crossbar, or wire-rigging for vehicle attachment. Honest Aging: The piece is in entirely untouched, very good combat-worn condition, showing genuine fraying along the edges and minor period staining that adds incredible character.
An outstanding opportunity to secure a premier, advanced-level Wehrmacht field gear variant that is missing from almost all combat equipment displays. 100% Guaranteed Original. Type: Large Gas/Mine Warning Pennant (Gasspürfahne) Dimensions: 35 cm x 24 cm (Wound badge in photos is for scale reference only). Untouched, combat-used
