A portepee (also spelled Portepee) is a decorative sword or dagger knot (tassel) worn on the hilt or grip of a German Army officer's dress dagger. Its primary functions were historical, ceremonial, and to denote the wearer's rank or status.In the German Army (Heer) during the Third Reich era (1935–1945), a silver portepee made of woven aluminum wire over a thread core was a key indicator of officer rank, worn by all ranks from Fähnrich (Ensign) upwards.The daggers themselves were not combat weapons but rather part of the formal uniform, worn during parades, official events, and formal military occasions. The portepee was an essential accoutrement for completing the proper dress appearance.

This portepee is in a perfect condtion with no fray. At some point is has been wrapped around a dagger. There is a fine 50CM Lenght!. A nice piece to complete or upgrade your army dagger.
