The Gewehrgranatgerät ("rifle grenade device") was the official German name for the Schiessbecher ("shooting cup"), a rifle grenade launcher used by the Wehrmacht during World War II. Introduced in 1942, it was designed to be attached to the end of standard-issue rifles, primarily the Karabiner 98k. It attached to the end of the rifle barrel via a clamp. A special blank rifle cartridge was used to propel the grenade, which automatically armed upon impact. A variety of specialized 30mm grenades were developed for it, including high-explosive (HE), hollow-charge anti-tank, smoke, flare, and even propaganda leaflet grenades. It was an effective weapon, capable of engaging targets like infantry, fortifications, and light armored vehicles up to a range of 280 meters (310 yards).
