A fliegerkopfhaube refers to specialized, fur-lined leather flying helmets issued to Luftwaffe (German Air Force) aircrews for protection in cold, open, or high-altitude cockpits.
Two prominent models of these winter flying helmets were the FK33 and the LKpW101:
FK33 Fliegerkopfhaube: This was an unwired (without communication equipment) leather, fur-lined helmet used primarily for basic training and in aircraft where no direct radio connection was necessary. LKpW101: This model was the standard pattern introduced in 1938 and used throughout the war. It was also a brown leather, sheep's wool-lined flight helmet but was equipped with integral communication equipment, including built-in earphones and a throat microphone.
