A Luftwaffe Kartentasche is a German term for a military map case used during the World War II era by the Luftwaffe (the German air force). These were typically leather pouches, often in brown or black, designed to protect and carry maps, navigational tools, notebooks, and other related paperwork for officers and pilots in the field.
Primarily made of brown or black grained leather. They featured a main compartment with a protective flap, often secured by straps, and internal sleeves or small pouches for items like pencils, erasers, and other plotting equipment. Original pieces often bear manufacturer marks, dates (e.g., 1936, 1938), and sometimes specific Luftwaffe acceptance stamps or personnel names inside the flap. While associated with the Luftwaffe, early patterns were often standard issue across different branches of the Wehrmacht (German armed forces).
