WW2 German Army gaiters, or Gamaschen, were widely issued from 1940 onwards to conserve leather, as they replaced the traditional jackboots for most soldiers. Initially intended for rear-echelon and replacement troops, the use of gaiters and ankle boots became standard issue for frontline combat units across the Heer (Army), Luftwaffe (Air Force), and Waffen-SS as the war progressed and leather supplies dwindled.

A mid to late ware produced pair of gaiters, unissued with brown leather straps and galvanized steel. Matching pair, both maker marked Willbrandt & Zahncker A.G
