Army Officers Panther head sword by E. Pack & Sohne

A panther head officer's sword is a specific, ornate model of ceremonial sword, most famously associated with the German Army (Heer) officers during the Third Reich (Nazi Germany) era (1933-1945). The most defining feature is the highly detailed pommel sculpted in the shape of a panther's (or sometimes ambiguously a lion's or leopard's) head. These hilts often included inset faceted red glass eyes. Various Solingen-based sword manufacturers produced these, including prominent names like Carl Eickhorn, E. Pack & Sohne, Anton Wingen Jr., and Alcoso (Alexander Coppel Solingen). The hilt fittings were typically made of brass or aluminum, often fire-gilded or silver-plated for a high-shine finish. The grips were usually black celluloid wrapped tightly with silver or brass wire. The crossguard or langet (the shield-shaped part of the guard) usually featured an open- or half-closed-wing Wehrmacht-style eagle clutching a swastika, identifying it as an Army officer's presentation piece. Some SS variations existed with SS runes on the langet. These were regulation dress uniform items for officers and senior NCOs, worn on specific formal occasions like parades. They were primarily ceremonial rather than combat weapons.

A beautifull Wehrmacht Panther / Lion's head sword by E.Pack & Sohne. It is in an outstanding condition, it comes complete with it's portepee. The panther's eyes are included with red glass. Practically all fire gilding remaining, all factory finished paint on the scabbard remaining for at least 95 %. The blade is MINT, like a mirror. The grip shows no cracks or chipping, brass wire is intact. The portepee is in a very good condition. A very beautifull Heer Sword!
