The K98 pouch (or Patronentaschen) is a leather ammunition pouch used by German forces during WWI and WWII to carry ammunition for the Karabiner 98 kurz (K98k) bolt-action rifle.
The pouches held the 7.92x57mm Mauser ammunition, which was loaded into the rifle via 5-round "stripper" clips. Each pouch had three main compartments and held a total of 30 rounds (six 5-round clips). Soldiers armed with the K98k rifle were typically issued a pair of pouches, for a total of 60 rounds. They were primarily made of leather. Early-war pouches were often a natural brown that the soldier was expected to blacken and polish, while later-war production switched to pre-blackened leather.
