*A German Bakelite Carbide Lantern (often called an Einheitslaterne or "Bunker Lantern") is a rugged, military-issued lamp from WWII, primarily made from brown bakelite plastic, that generates light by mixing water with calcium carbide to create acetylene gas, featuring tanks for fuel/water, glass windows (sometimes with blackout covers for Morse code), and heavy-duty hooks for hanging, serving as durable field lighting for Wehrmacht units. Brown bakelite, a durable pre-war plastic, making it lighter and more resilient than metal.
Fuel: Uses calcium carbide (solid fuel) and water; water drips onto the carbide to produce flammable acetylene gas. Two tanks (one for water, one for carbide), metal window frames, and a large hook for carrying or hanging. The gas is ignited to produce a bright, reliable flame, often with adjustable intensity by controlling water flow.
Military Markings: Often stamped with the German Waffenamt (WaA) proof mark and manufacturer's details. Issued to German troops for general illumination in bunkers, trenches, and field conditions. In essence, it's a WWII German military flashlight alternative, leveraging chemical reaction for light, built tough with early plastic technology. *

In a good condition, I think I have overpaid for this item but they are getting scarse and harder to find. It is very nicely maker and WaA marked. I opened it up, it still had the carbide smell, complete with sieve and (unbroken) spring
