*The Deutsche Arbeitsfront (DAF), or German Labour Front, was the sole Nazi-sanctioned trade union organization in Germany from 1933 to 1945. Replacing independent unions, it aimed to integrate workers into National Socialism, promote a "community of people" (Volksgemeinschaft), and manage labor, boasting 25 million members. Led by Robert Ley, the DAF controlled working conditions, wages, and leisure, ensuring loyalty in exchange for job security. The DAF was designed to eliminate class struggle, align workers with the Nazi party, and boost economic production for the state. Upon taking power, the Nazis abolished all independent trade unions and replaced them with the DAF, making it the only legal organization representing labor. Membership was technically voluntary but effectively mandatory for employment in many sectors, with members paying monthly dues of 1.50–2.00 Reichsmark. It controlled wages, working hours, and conditions through initiatives like "Beauty of Labour" (Schönheit der Arbeit).
Economic Power: The DAF became a massive business conglomerate, owning banks, housing, and industries. Through the "Strength Through Joy" (Kraft durch Freude or KdF) program, it organized leisure activities, vacations, and cultural events to keep the workforce content and occupied. Essentially, the DAF was a tool for the Nazi regime to control the workforce, suppress labor unrest, and ensure productivity to prepare for and sustain the war effort. *
This item:
A very nice DAF visor cap, lightly worn, with the window still neatly integrated into the interior. The sweatband is in good condition. The storm strap is still neatly in place. Completely moth-free. The badge was removed at the time. These badges are still widely available for around 50 euros.
