Heer (Wehrmacht) portepee for sword
Category:
€ 74,00
A portepee is a decorative and symbolic sword tassel (also called a sword knot) attached to the hilt of a German sword, epee, or saber. Originally, it was a functional leather strap that the rider wrapped around the wrist to prevent loss of his weapon during mounted combat. Over time (especially from 1808 onward), it evolved into a status symbol. It indicated the wearer's rank and was worn by officers and senior non-commissioned officers on ceremonial occasions and parades.
This item:
A neat, original, and worn portepee. Only the silver thread at the top is a bit loose, but otherwise it is in good, worn condition.
