In the German Army (Wehrmacht) of World War II, Jäger (meaning "hunter") referred to specialized light infantry units trained for combat in challenging terrain like forests and hills. They occupied a tactical middle ground: more mobile and agile than standard infantry, but more heavily armed than dedicated mountain troops. They were primarily used for reconnaissance, skirmishing, and fighting in "adverse terrain" where massive infantry divisions were too slow. Many Jäger divisions were utilized for anti-partisan and internal security operations, particularly in Yugoslavia and Greece. They relied on high-level training and superior communications to outmaneuver enemies in urban or rugged areas

This field-grey doeskin wool visor cap, belonging to a Jäger Officer, is in truly impeccable condition. The piping is executed in a light Green (Hellgrün) color. This piece is made by the company Erel known for it's high end quality visor caps. Executed in the finest quality fabric called doeskin. The term doeskin refers to a high-quality, medium-weight fabric, traditionally made from 100% merino wool, known for its extreme softness, tight weave, and subtle, luxurious sheen. I examined the visor very closely and found literally only a few small spots of moth marks, which thankfully are not all the way through the fabric but are superficial. The "vented" cockade retains 100% of its original silver wash. The eagle has beautiful detailing. The entire piece has a beautiful saddle shape, exactly as you would expect! It has a beautifully finished interior with great maker markings on the diamond but also on the sweathband which is completely intact. The size is 57. In my opinion, this visor is very hard to improve.
