A German Kriegsflagge (War Ensign) during WW2, specifically used between 1935 and 1945, was the official flag of the German Navy (Kriegsmarine) and war ministries, featuring a red field with a white disc, a black swastika, and a black-white-black cross, symbolizing Nazi ideology and military strength. A red field with a white disc located in the center. Inside the disc is a black swastika, which is rotated to stand on one of its tips. The flag incorporates a large black-white-black cross, also known as the Iron Cross, dividing the red field into four distinct sections. It was used primarily as the naval ensign on all ships of the German navy, as well as on various military buildings, bases, and installations, particularly from 1938 onward. It blended traditional German military colors (red, white, and black) with the official Nazi swastika, representing the integration of the German military within the Nazi state. This flag was often referred to as the Reichskriegsflagge. While the 1935–1938 version had a slightly different appearance, the 1938–1945 version, which removed the iron cross from the corner to emphasize the central swastika, was the most common during the war years.
This item:
A very representative war flag with the usual mothing here and there, some fraying, but it is completely intact with the full cord in the hem with the loops. It is very beautifully stamped with the name, the size indication 100 x 170 CM and the manufacturer, which is Plutzar & Brüll KG, Bielitz O/S refers to a historically important textile factory from the Bielsko-Biała region (formerly known by its German name Bielitz), in present-day Poland. The factory was located in the district Mikuszowice Krakowskie in Bielitz (Bielsko-Biała), at the time referred to as O/S (Oberschlesien or Upper Silesia). It was one of the largest cloth and textile factories in the region, specializing in the production of wool and fabrics. During the Second World War, the company produced under the name Plutzar & Brüll KG including military equipment, such as flags for the German Wehrmacht. After the war, in 1945, the factory was nationalized by the Polish authorities. The company was continued under the name Krepol (Zakłady Przemysłu, Wełnianego Krepol). All in all a nice flag with a good displayable size!
