A magnificent, highly collectible, and combat-used WW2 German Steel Ammunition Box for the MG34/42 machine gun. This choice piece is the desirable variation featuring the classic slanted lid design. It is manufactured in a rare Luftwaffe Blue-Gray (Luftwaffeblau) factory finish, heavily indicating issue to Fallschirmjäger (Paratrooper) or Luftwaffe Flak units.
The box features prominent, original period-stenciled white text reading "1. Zug" (1st Platoon) on both the left and right sides for field identification. Bearing the stamped manufacturer code brh 41 near the handle, this box acts like a true time capsule—even retaining its original period weapon oil scent on the interior. Paint & Finish: Retains a high percentage of its original Luftwaffe blue factory paint. The bare spots and high-wear areas on the handle reveal the authentic factory red-primer undercoat, showing no active oxidation. Crisply stamped brh 41 (Schaltbau GmbH, München, 1941) on the top lid accompanied by a clear Waffenamt (WaA) inspection stamp. The bold white "1. Zug" tactical platoon markings are 100% original and beautifully aged. The classic slanted lid and main closure latch are in perfect working order, closing tightly. Both the leather grip padding on the main carry handle and the two side leather pads are completely intact and original to the piece. Interior: Clean and well-preserved, retaining its original blue finish on the inside of the lid. It opens to a remarkable, authentic period scent of vintage weapon oil.
