An excellent and highly authentic German Wehrmacht M31 mess kit (Essgeschirr), manufactured by the renowned firm Heinrich Ritter (Esslingen). This set is a textbook example of a field-used combination, featuring a top lid marked HRE 42 and a bottom tin marked HRE 41. Despite the one-year production difference, both components are a 100% factory-paint match, retaining nearly all of their original olive-green finish. The bottom tin shows an honest, minor wartime dent that adds great combat character, while the aluminum and steel handle fixtures remain sturdy and unaltered. Finding early-to-mid-war mess tins with this high percentage of original paint is becoming increasingly difficult. A top-tier, character-rich field gear item, perfect for completing a combat display or mannequin.
