Exclusive Masterpiece: WWII Luftwaffe General Officer's Visor Cap (Schirmmütze) – Personally Owned by General der Flakartillerie Wolfgang Pickert (Stalingrad & Oak Leaves Recipient)The Man, The Rank, and Absolute CommandWolfgang Pickert (1897–1984) reached the absolute pinnacle of the Luftwaffe’s anti-aircraft branch, ascending to the rank of General der Flakartillerie on March 1, 1945. As one of the most trusted and tactically brilliant commanders in the Luftwaffe, Pickert’s operational position was extraordinarily elite. Towards the final stages of the war, he was appointed General der Flakwaffe at the Oberbefehlshaber der Luftwaffe (OKL).

In this supreme position, his tactical doctrine and strategic decisions bypassed standard military red tape—he carried direct accountability solely to the highest echelons of the Third Reich, answering fundamentally to Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring and Adolf Hitler himself. The Spearheads of His Career: Stalingrad & The CrimeaGeneral Pickert’s tactical genius was forged in the absolute hell of the Eastern Front. As the commanding officer of the legendary 9. Flak-Division (mot.), he was the artillery backbone of the 6th Army during the brutal Siege of Stalingrad. Pickert revolutionized the deployment of Flak forces, utilizing the fearsome 8.8 cm guns not just for air defense, but as devastating direct-fire anti-tank and assault weapons that single-handedly anchored the German defensive perimeter northwest of the city.Recognizing his irreplaceable strategic value, Hitler ordered Pickert to be personally evacuated from the Stalingrad pocket via one of the last transport planes in January 1943 to deliver an uncensored situational report to the High Command. He left the pocket just days before the final collapse. Pickert immediately reconstituted the shattered 9. Flak-Division and led them into the brutal battles of the Kuban bridgehead and the Crimea, where his units achieved the staggering milestone of destroying over 1,400 enemy aircraft and hundreds of Soviet tanks.

A Legendary Array of DecorationsGeneral Pickert was one of the most highly decorated commanders of the entire Luftwaffe field forces, holding:The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross (Awarded January 11, 1943, as Generalmajor at Stalingrad). The Oak Leaves to the Knight's Cross (489th Award, June 5, 1944, as Generalleutnant for the defense of Crimea). The German Cross in Gold (December 7, 1942).The Iron Cross 1st and 2nd Class (1914) with World War II Spange.

This pristine visor cap represents an unrepeatable find in the post-war militaria market. It has never previously been offered to the public, having been preserved for decades within a legendary, highly secretive private FLAK estate in Germany. This is the exact same, unmatched collection that yielded the world-famous museum-grade ensemble currently featured on our site: the complete uniform and visor cap of Generalleutnant Richard Reimann and the historic regimental standard of Flak-Regiment 5.

Tailored in the absolute highest tier of wartime luxury, the cap is crafted from the finest, cloud-soft blue-grey doeskin wool. This premium material is entirely intact, completely moth-free, and displays the distinctive, high-sitting saddle shape (Sattelform) that denotes the pinnacle of officer styling. The Golden Insignia: The front features a breath-taking, early-pattern Luftwaffe general officer's eagle accompanied by the winged cockade. Both are meticulously hand-embroidered in genuine, heavy gold bullion wire directly onto the doeskin wool and the black mohair band. The embroidery shows zero oxidation and remains remarkably bright. The Visionary Erel Interior: The inside is a masterclass in Robert Lubstein’s craftsmanship. The cream-coloured silk lining is deeply embossed under its original celluloid sweat diamond with the dual logo of the Offizierkleiderkasse Berlin and the legendary "Erel Sonderklasse" mark. The Famous 'Stirnschutz' Sweatband: The tan leather sweatband is entirely intact and proudly features the bright silver-foiled imprint: "Erel" Stirnschutz D.R.G.M. D.R.P. ang. (indicating the registered design and patent-pending forehead protection system). The Living Witness of Wear: This is a true combat-worn general's cap. The interior silk displays authentic, deep sweat-bleeding and darkening along the inner rim from intensive field deployment. The leather sweatband retains the original period-applied metal monogram initials "W P" belonging to Wolfgang Pickert. Crucially, the black lacquered visor peak reveals unmistakable impressions and craquelé shadow marks where the heavy gold bullion storm cord pressed tightly into the lacquer for decades, certifying its untouched originality.
