€ 195,00
A WWII German Model 1938 combat gas mask set with matching tactical numbers. The black rubberized M38 facepiece is in excellent, supple shape, retaining its sharp molded form in size "3" (Klein). It is stamped with the "flr" code (Dräger, Vienna) and features the "bmw" code on the body (Aluminiumwerke Nürnberg). The metal eyepiece rims and the snout assembly retain their original wartime blue lacquer finish. Due to wartime material shortages, components made of standard magnetic iron were utilized. These parts were designated with blue paint to warn specialized ground troops, such as artillery rangefinders or compass operators, that the mask was magnetic and could interfere with sensitive equipment.Wartime regulations dictated that if a specialized optical instrument or compass operator was replaced by a soldier wearing blue-rimmed fittings, they were required to swap gas masks immediately to prevent any magnetic interference with the unit's calculations. The snout is hand-painted with the matching weapon/issue number "2843". The mask comes equipped with a correct FE41 filter. The matching M38 corrugated carrying canister retains both its original long and short canvas carrying straps. The bottom of the canister is stamped with the letter "D" (Dicht), signifying its factory-waterproofed construction. The front neck of the canister features the identical hand-painted issue number "2843", matching the facepiece.Inside the canister lid, the spare lens compartment is fully intact, containing its original retaining spring and a set of replacement lenses (Klarscheiben). The compartment houses its original paper name-tag, named to: "Gefreiter Lorenz Vögele".
